Printing from fully managed Linux clients is configured automatically for hosts in MacLean or Schaeffer or by request for systems outside those buildings.

Printers are no longer browseable and are only accessible by communicating with the ITS provided print queues listed below.

Self-managed linux systems in MLH and SH can be configured manually by using the information in the following tables to add print queues using the command line tool lpadmin or using the cups web interface or other system provided printing configuration tools. Alternately a script is available that will create print queues provided supporting packages are installed first. lpadmin.sh This script might depend on system packages for correct functioning of the created print queues but it downloads a tarball of ppds to use when creating the queues in order to use identical ppds provided with Fedora. Therefore you should install these packages or their equivalent on your system.

Mac OS

Self managed systems/personal systems can use these instructions to add departmental printers to their system.  Or submit a ticket and Brian will help add them.

Ubuntu (possibly Debian)

sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/cups /usr/lib/cups/filter

Then invoke the script like so (for all CS printers):

Model: The hardware model
Color: "yes" if the printer can print in color; "no" otherwise

Printers for All Faculty/Staff

There are two color laser printers available (p14clr in MLH, p241clr in SH) for use by any faculty or staff member. The document Color Printing describes their location and use. Please carefully read the rules regarding the use of these printers before using them.

Printers for MacLean Hall Faculty, Staff, and Assistants

The following print queues are intended for use by faculty and staff in the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics only. Most of the rooms that contain these printers are locked, and only faculty, staff, and graduate assistants may obtain keys.

Educational Laboratory Printers

 These printers are located in the educational laboratories in rooms B5 MLH, 301 MLH, and 346 SH. These laboratories are funded by Student Computer Fee money and have "charged" print queues created for them.  Users must use the PaperCut client to print to these devices.
